The Myth of “Equal Donations = Neutrality”

Distraction: We donate equally to both Democrats and Republicans, so we’re not taking sides.

Fact: While donations may appear evenly split, that’s not the point. Anti-diversity candidates are still funded and endorsed. The “party balance” line is a distraction — Article 10 must be enforced for every endorsement and donation.

The Neutrality Claim

Whenever REALTORS® raise concerns about who RPAC supports, one of the quickest responses is:
“Don’t worry. We split our money evenly between Republicans and Democrats. We’re not taking sides.”

On paper, that might sound reassuring. But scratch the surface, and it’s clear this “balance” argument is little more than smoke and mirrors.

False Balance ≠ True Neutrality

  • Equal dollars don’t mean equal values. If one side runs candidates who oppose LGBTQ rights, immigrant rights, reproductive rights, or other fundamental freedoms, then funding them isn’t “neutral” — it’s complicit.
  • Percentages don’t tell the story. A 50/50 split can still mean REALTORS® are bankrolling candidates who openly undermine Article 10’s call for nondiscrimination.
  • Balance can be weaponized. “We give to both sides” is often used to shut down criticism instead of engaging with the real issue: Who is actually being endorsed, and what do they stand for?

Article 10: The Real Standard

The REALTOR® Code of Ethics doesn’t say: “Be fair, unless you can balance it out with a donation on the other side.” It says REALTORS® cannot discriminate, period.

That means every endorsement and donation should be held to that standard. Article 10 is not about partisan balance — it’s about professional integrity.

What REALTORS® Deserve

  • Transparency: Stop hiding behind statistics. Show members exactly which candidates are being supported, and why.
  • Accountability: If a candidate’s platform undermines diversity, equity, and inclusion, that candidate should not get REALTOR® dollars — no matter their party.
  • Consistency: Party balance should never excuse violations of Article 10. The bar is higher than that.

The Bottom Line

Splitting money equally between Democrats and Republicans doesn’t make RPAC neutral. It makes the PAC equally willing to endorse discrimination when it suits political convenience.

Neutrality isn’t measured in dollars. It’s measured in values. And Article 10 gives us the standard: fairness, equality, and integrity — in every race, every time.
